Joanne?

I took Liv to the library not too long ago. (No this isn't the time of the puddle jumping.)

I was into a really good book and she wanted to play at the computer, so I set her up and then kicked back on the couch that was close to her little station.

Every now and then I would glance up and see Liv with her littl headphones on and the mouse positioned just so, so that she clicks with her little thumb.

I would go back to my book.

This continued for a delightful
20 minutes, when suddenly over the loud speaker (I didn't even know those were ALLOWED in a library...) "Would Olivia's mom, Joanne, please come to the front desk? Olivia's mom, Joanne?"

As you may have noticed by my blog title, my name isn't Joanne.

But, alas, I looked up to find her no longer at her station.

I got up and went to the front desk where my sheepish little daughter waited, and I was greeted with a "There you are Joanne. Olivia couldn't find you."

So, then Olivia and Joanne walked quietly away from the front desk.

And I asked her, "Olivia, why did you call me Joanne?"

"Because I couldn't remember your name."

"So, you thought up JOANNE?" An incredibly old fashioned name for a five year old to think of.

And my friends, Olivia doesn't even KNOW a Joanne.

Weird.

More please. Thanks for the laugh. That is PRETTY darn funny. I have a 5 year old also and they are just so funny at that age.

That is PRICELESS! Why didnt she just turn around and see you? I never understand kids.

One day I was in Weight Watchers. I left my four kids (2 of whom are 11 and 9) out on the playground RIGHT OUTSIDE.

I come back out and get in trouble for leaving my kids without supervision. HELLO? My 11 year old was supervising.

COme to find out when the day care kids came out to play the day care worker asked my 11 year old to move my son (who didnt walk yet) and she said...

I'm NOT allowed to move him.

YES SHE DID.

So they assumed she was much younger?

Oh yea, I got carried away. you were above me on Kat's site today.

Okay...that is so funny and cute!
My kids learned my name really quickly...I didn't always answer Mom....(we tend to tune that out) but they learned that I answered to Ronda when shouted out!

Oh my God that is so funny. I've had my first and most welcome laugh-out-loud moment this morning, thanks to you. The way this day is shaping up, it might be my ONLY one. Joanne! That just slays me.

LOL! I love this story.
This makes me want to meet little Olivia. It shows that she is very inventive. But then again how could she not, with two older sisters....

Los said...

Come to think of it, I probably didn't know my parents' names until I was about 4 or 5. I just knew them as mom and dad ... weird, though, isn't it?

Unknown said...

You know we could have all just berated camping and taken the day off. {*grin*}

Beware of the emergence of the Joanne's of the world. They are coming back!

You gotta love it. I also love that you are sitting in a chair next to her and yet she manages to get away and page you because she "couldn't find you". Kids are so sneaky it scares me. :)

I'd be glad she forgot my name in this case! Funny! Happy SITS!

Hey, she could have said Marge or Bertha. My daughter once got away from me in the department store. I was in a huge panic when I heard over the loudspeaker for Heather's father. When I got to the register, they told me that she said her father was lost. Yup, I was lost--not her. Kids are great. Happy SITS day.

Helen McGinn said...

She maybe met one of your 'personalities'...my daughter calls mine Bob....

At least she realized that you had a name other than mom. My son gets pissed if I suggest that I might be someone other than Mom.

Happy SITS day! Not being a mom, BUT an aunt who has a different nickname from each kid, there's no telling how long I would have blissfully been unaware that my charge was gone ... and probably thinking, "WHO is that FOOL they're looking for & why doesn't he/she/it go claim their kid ... wait! what? where's my munchkin? what name did they say? which kid do I have with me? which sister will laugh/freak out when the child I've bribed with M&M's & Coke spills the beans anyway?"
