I took Liv to the library not too long ago. (No this isn't the time of the puddle jumping.)
I was into a really good book and she wanted to play at the computer, so I set her up and then kicked back on the couch that was close to her little station.
Every now and then I would glance up and see Liv with her littl headphones on and the mouse positioned just so, so that she clicks with her little thumb.
I would go back to my book.
This continued for a delightful 20 minutes, when suddenly over the loud speaker (I didn't even know those were ALLOWED in a library...) "Would Olivia's mom, Joanne, please come to the front desk? Olivia's mom, Joanne?"
As you may have noticed by my blog title, my name isn't Joanne.
But, alas, I looked up to find her no longer at her station.
I got up and went to the front desk where my sheepish little daughter waited, and I was greeted with a "There you are Joanne. Olivia couldn't find you."
So, then Olivia and Joanne walked quietly away from the front desk.
And I asked her, "Olivia, why did you call me Joanne?"
"Because I couldn't remember your name."
"So, you thought up JOANNE?" An incredibly old fashioned name for a five year old to think of.
And my friends, Olivia doesn't even KNOW a Joanne.
Weird.

Funniest story I've read all day! Seriously...out of all the names? Joanne!?!? So cute!
That was great. Nice to meet you, Joanne.
More please. Thanks for the laugh. That is PRETTY darn funny. I have a 5 year old also and they are just so funny at that age.
That is PRICELESS! Why didnt she just turn around and see you? I never understand kids.
One day I was in Weight Watchers. I left my four kids (2 of whom are 11 and 9) out on the playground RIGHT OUTSIDE.
I come back out and get in trouble for leaving my kids without supervision. HELLO? My 11 year old was supervising.
COme to find out when the day care kids came out to play the day care worker asked my 11 year old to move my son (who didnt walk yet) and she said...
I'm NOT allowed to move him.
YES SHE DID.
So they assumed she was much younger?
Oh yea, I got carried away. you were above me on Kat's site today.
Okay...that is so funny and cute!
My kids learned my name really quickly...I didn't always answer Mom....(we tend to tune that out) but they learned that I answered to Ronda when shouted out!
Oh my God that is so funny. I've had my first and most welcome laugh-out-loud moment this morning, thanks to you. The way this day is shaping up, it might be my ONLY one. Joanne! That just slays me.
Come to think of it, I probably didn't know my parents' names until I was about 4 or 5. I just knew them as mom and dad ... weird, though, isn't it?
You know we could have all just berated camping and taken the day off. {*grin*}
Beware of the emergence of the Joanne's of the world. They are coming back!
Your comments on my blog cracked me up!!!
Yes, I'll send you my used razor and a bonus new one. That's just how sweet I am.
You were the ONLY one to notice how I snuck in that 4th week. LOL
Gorgeous story - said as only little girls can!!!
LOUD speakers - I am aghast. At least your were left with some dignity - :)
That is one of the funniest things I have ever heard!!! What a great story!
Weird. Funny the things kids say isn't it? Stopping by from SITS!!
Oh, Joanne, you are a riot.
That's hilarious !
LOL!!! That is funny!
How cute! Kids do say the funniest things!
Bec xx
You gotta love it. I also love that you are sitting in a chair next to her and yet she manages to get away and page you because she "couldn't find you". Kids are so sneaky it scares me. :)
I'd be glad she forgot my name in this case! Funny! Happy SITS!
Hey, she could have said Marge or Bertha. My daughter once got away from me in the department store. I was in a huge panic when I heard over the loudspeaker for Heather's father. When I got to the register, they told me that she said her father was lost. Yup, I was lost--not her. Kids are great. Happy SITS day.
She maybe met one of your 'personalities'...my daughter calls mine Bob....
At least she realized that you had a name other than mom. My son gets pissed if I suggest that I might be someone other than Mom.
LOL, too cute. Definitely one of those "kids say the darndest things" moments.
~ Sandy
That was absoultely hysterical! Thanks for the Monday morning laugh!
LOL - at least she asked for you by a name! At that age, mine probably would have described me as some 85 year old woman who says potty words a lot.
oh this is too funny! I can't believe she forgot your name. what a riot! Congrats on your SITS day... I have loved your posts!!
I love this :) awe! Happy SITS Day!!

OK...that was so funny!! I could see my 4 year old doing that too!!
Happy SITS day!
Okay, this is funny.....
Cute!
Happy SITS day! Not being a mom, BUT an aunt who has a different nickname from each kid, there's no telling how long I would have blissfully been unaware that my charge was gone ... and probably thinking, "WHO is that FOOL they're looking for & why doesn't he/she/it go claim their kid ... wait! what? where's my munchkin? what name did they say? which kid do I have with me? which sister will laugh/freak out when the child I've bribed with M&M's & Coke spills the beans anyway?"
FUNNY!! That sounds like a day in the life of ~Jamie too!

That's awesome!!! When my then-4 year old got lost, she told the people at Kroger to page "Miss Jenny" because that's what everybody calls me, she said :)
Funniest.
Story.
EVER!
At least she thought of a name! I thought my mom's name was Mom until I was about 7.
Happy SITS Day!
Now THAT is a funny story! LOL
LOL! That's because to her your name is Mommy, not Rhonda. Too cute!
What a cute story...kids are so funny!
Joanne? Haha! Perhaps she was hoping that a nice woman named Joanne would show up and take her home to eat cookies and ice cream and watch movies all day?
Happy SITS Day!
She couldn't remember your name??? She sounds like my husband.
Well, she's good at spur-of-the-moment situations I supposed!
Happy SITS day!
Too freaking funny! Joanne! That is good.
So adorable.
ROFL Our friend's son kept calling me Sally for the longest time and we couldn't figure out why until we realized it was a character from Cars. We don't know why he associates me with it, but oh well... at least it's a Porsche! ;)
That is awesomw!!!! Joanne...lol!!! I love it!!! dropping in from sits
That is too funny! Kids come up with some really great stuff sometimes!
You are so funny! Happy SITS Day!
So cute. And it just goes to show that we really are, indelibly, just Mommy to them, way down deep where it counts. Kinda wonderful when you think about it.
That's too cute! Love what kids come up with.
That is so funny and so cute!
...you responded to it so it worked! :)
Ha ha! I remember when I was little thinking that all dads had the same name and since my dad's name is Daniel I thought it was universal. I mean...why not? Everyone else called their mom, mom and their dad, dad! :)
Oh my gosh... too cute!!
Have a great feature day.
oh my gosh that's hysterical!! hope you have an awesome SITS day!
Rhonda . . . Joanne . . . clearly you can see how the two could be mixed up??
Ah, kids. I suppose it could have been worse...she could have said your name was Clyde or something (no offense to any Clydes out there).
This made me smile. :) Happy SITS Day to you!!!
Total smile, that is precious!
Oh my gosh! that's so funny!
Happy SITSday!
How cute! Kids say the funniest things!
Happy SITSday!
Happy SITS day. Out of the mouths of babes!
Sounds like something my son would do. Kids do the weirdest, craziest things sometimes....gotta love 'em!
Hee hee - that's cute! If you ask my three-year-old son what my name is, he says "Miss Amanda."
So polite.
OMG! I am cracking up right now! This is too funny! I love it! :)
How hilarious! Hope your day being the FB is as amusing!
You need to put a depends warning on your blog. Just sayin'.
Stopping by from SITS. You have a great blog, and this post is hilarious! The things kids come up with!
you are too funnyy..
Joanne?! Too cute.
Ha! That's awesome.
Creative on her part!
Hmmm... that is interesting. I wonder where she heard it?
Love it! I wonder how old I was when I knew what my parents names were. I really can't remember that long ago. That is a funny random name to pull out of no where!
Well at least she still went home with you ! She could have changed Mom's while she was at it.
Interesting story
That is great! I love the logic little kids have. Everything makes perfect sense in their world, even though it doesn't make a lick of sense to us. How funny.
Thanks for the laugh!
Kids are great.
Joanne is a nice name but she could have thought of something more creative like Mother Dearest!
Happy SITS day!
That is great! lol gotta love 5 year olds!
My son refered to his father as "the boy who lives with us and drinks coffee." Can't wait to hear that one over the loudspeaker.
Oh gawd. Sorry but that is hilarious. I suppose it could have been worse - at least Joanne is a decent name.
Ha ha ha ha ha!
Seriously, all your featured posts are hysterical. Good choices!
This is the best story I've read all day. Hilarious!
That is so sweet and innocent.
Visiting from SITS
:o) Hope you had a Happy Monday!
When she becomes a teenager and doesn't want anyone to know when she is talking to you on the cell phone, she can just refer to you as Joanne! Too cute.
http://bentleyboutique.com/craftblog
I'm thinking maybe Olivia is a little passive aggressive and she got you. :)
Oh my gosh that is funny! Of all the names???
OK, I just laughed out loud at this one. Then I had to share it with my son and hubbie who heard me giggling. You are one funny lady!
OMG! That is freakin hilarious!!! LOL! Love it!
Happy SITS day!
Happy SITS!
Cute. I'd settle for Joanne. I've been called worse by my kids at times when they were teens but loved them unconditionally nonetheless! They grow up fast.
Bless her, that's so sweet!
