Thursday's Writer's Workshop - Tammy

Welcome to another edition of Thursday's Writer Workshop, hosted and taught and graded all by our favorite Kitten. Let me first take a moment to introduce her. Kat is a tall, slim beauty, with a Hawaiian Honey who lei-ed her and gave her three delightful little hula dancers, and even with all of this to her credit she still cares for a million other children and blogs daily. If you know anyone who doesn't love her, please let me know, (besides Ellen, of course) because I'd totally go kick their ass.

Ready? Here we go!

The Prompts:

1.) Tag! Post and write about the 6th picture from (the 6th folder of?) your Flickr account and then do the same for the 6th picture of the 6th folder on your computer.

2.) Are you still friends with you high school friends? Describe them.

3.) If you had to star in a reality tv show, which one would it be and why?

4.) Describe a time when your pet caused chaos.

------------

This is a no-brainer for me. I'm going with number 2. This friend is going to be thrilled that I don't have a lot of pictures to show you all! I think it is unfortunate though!

And this friend goes back. Way back. We're not talking high school. Nope. We're not talking junior high either. This friend goes back to elementary school. Grade six, actually. And, boy, did I think she was a bitch. Now don't be feeling all sorry for her. She totally deserved it by thinking the same of me.

I was actually very good friends with her aunt, Dixie. We were all in the same grade, but Dixie and I had a history of a couple of years. And this new chick? Well, she had ties to Dixie also. I didn't like that one bit.

Who the hell does she think she is, just coming in off the street in grade six and thinking that she can just scoop my friend?

Poor Dixie, who knew that there were issues, was having a birthday party. She had a real dilemma on her hands. Invite the friend, or the family? We both agreed that we could get along, because we both wanted to go, and neither of us was confident that we would be the chosen one. And there comes a time when you have to sacrifice for your own benefit.

So that was what we did.

As it turns out, we bonded that night.

I can count on one hand the amount of times we have not only fought, but disagreed.

When we were in grade 10 and she went a little wild, I was the one who sat down with her and told her that I was worried.

When my daughter got into some funky shit on the internet, I went to her, because I know she can handle it, and that she will laugh with me over how I reacted to it!

When I discovered that beer, Strawberry Angel, and cotton candy don't mix, she was the one rubbing my back while I threw up. (Actually, I think she was laughing her ass off over by the sinks, but we'll just pretend on this one...)

When we both got engaged to the 'wrong ones', we stuck it out and cheered each other on when we found the 'right ones'.

When I got married, she was the one I wanted standing up beside me. And she was. It was a rocky road for us at that time, one of those few bad times, but we fought for the friendship because we both knew it was worth it.

She is the one I sat with in Boston Pizza for three hours, and then by our vehicles for another two, because when we're together, we just don't shut up. And we're both okay with that.

When she wanted to connect with her long-lost father, I was the one that got to make that first phone call. And even though the relationship with him didn't work out, I was truly honoured to be the one she asked.

I could seriously get my toenails resectioned with her by my side and walk out feeling like I just had a pedicure, special coffee and a dozen laughs at the expense of our husbands.

We've shared babies and birthdays. Laughter and tears. Hugs and verbal backhands.

Now, I don't know for sure, but I think that maybe this is what having a sister must be like.

With busy lives we can go weeks without talking and still have every confidence that we have each other's backs, and that somewhere, when needed, there is a restaurant that has a table with our names and a couple of cheesecakes on it.

Which reminds me, Tammy, my friend, I think we are overdue....

I´m jealous. It´s very rare to have a friend like that. I do have good friends but none that go way back. And there is just something special about a person who knows your background and where you´ve come from. Cherish it!

Very sweet post. The best friends usually come from someone you didn't like in the beginning!
