Tis The Season

I stumbled upon a very sad blog the other day.

It left me feeling very troubled.

And I went home and looked at my beautiful little four, soon to be five, year old, and wondered how a person can hurt one so small. Who looks at you with all the unconditional love in the world.

How can a parent look at their own flesh and blood with anything but adoration?

How can they blame their life's troubles on this wee soul?

How awful is it that a little person can feel the weight of abuse and neglect on their narrow, slight little shoulders?

And feel it deep into their bones.

And have a heavy little heart.

And it brings home to me, someone who was so fortunate in the parents department, that there are children out there suffering. Suffering at the hands of the very people who are supposed to love them and adore them.

Abuse toward those who cannot protect themselves makes me sick to my stomach.

A man was sentenced to 30 days for dragging the family pet behind the car and killing her. His story? Euthanasia gone wrong. Huh? Seriously, you idiot?

The stories recently of a child's remains being found. Another who has "disappeared", but her blood was found in the mother's vehicle.

Nursing homes neglecting, stealing from, and roughing up the the seniors, with thin skin and brittle, fragile bones, whose children have put them there in good faith that they will be cared for.

Shouldn't human and humanity go hand in hand?

Take some time to remember those who are suffering this Christmas.

Reach out where you can.

Don't look away and pretend it's not happening.

Because, oh so sadly, it is.

Great post. As an adult and having been a victim of abuse I swore I would never judge another person caught up in that kind of cycle. Its debilitating in every way. However, children? Innocent, unable to fend for themselves, looking to their parents to fend and protect them? It makes me sick to my stomach that anyone could harm an innocent life. Evil exists and it is all around us and all of us have to stand up and say enough. We have to be willing to say exactly what you said Rhonda - you never know who you can help just by this post. I was one of those people who thought that I would never be in that situation. I met the man of my dreams and wham before I knew it he was a Mr Jekyll and My Hyde - long story but it can happen to any of us for any number of reasons. Great post and its a good thing that someone is blogging about it. Its scary isnt it when its often the person you trust the most who is the perpetrator.

It is so heartbreaking...I can't bear it!
We all need to be aware and care enough to be involved!

If we stay silent and allow it to happen, we are also guilty. Good for you Rhonda for speaking up and reminding us. Especially now, at the season of peace and love.

I too found the blog you're speaking of and found it unconscionable the things she had to withstand.

I feel as does many, that knowledge is power and social awareness helps all of the issues you were speaking of.

Thank you, for bringing this to our attention, we can get caught up in the materialist part of Christmas and not remember the less fortunate.

Lets not be silent anymore. any of us!

As a foster parent I had my eyes opened to some horrible truths and saw the abuse first hand as I cared for some of these kids. Thanks for this reminder.
