1.) Write or share a letter to Santa.
2.) Describe a favorite Winter memory.
3.) Last night it snowed buckets and you are forced to spend the entire day at home with your family...what's the plan!?!
4.) What's the best gift you've ever gotten/given.
5.) Describe a Christmas tradition that you have started with your own family?
I've found one that is just perfect for today, but I'm going to morph it a bit to fit my own needs. It's about a winter memory, albeit not a fabulous one. And what makes my winter memory a perfect post for today? Well, Olivia did it herself today. And it ain't pretty.
Let me begin with me.
It was a very cold day. When I got home from school no one was there yet and it was one of those rare times when our door was locked.
I hunkered down to wait for someone to come home. And then I noticed a very enticing pile of snow on our railing. It was huge! More than a mouthful. Light and fluffy and white. It. Looked. Delicious!
You know where this is going, don't you? Yes sir-reee. My blogging friends are smarter than a dozen raw carrots ANY DAY!
So there I am. And there it is.
And then tongue met railing.
And held.
I'm talking a real lick. None of this tip of the tongue stuff. It was a full tongue lick on that railing. The whole top of my tongue.
And stood there for a brief time trying to figure out what to do.
Do you remember in other posts, I would tell you about how I was shy? How I would NOT cop to anything that might make me look like a fool? This is one of those times.
I tore my tongue off the railing, because God knows I wouldn't want anyone seeing me like this.
And then I stood on our front step, which faced the school field, and screamed and cried for all I was worth.
One of my brother's friends came along and took me back to the school, where I bled all over the floor. They mopped me up the best they could, and proceeded to ask me what happened.
"Did you put your tongue on anything metal?"
"Uh-uh." I responded.
I think they knew I was lying.
So now fast forward to today. George was snow-blowing and Liv was playing in the front yard. He came around the front to see her standing there bleeding all over the place.
She did it. Like mother, like daughter, right?
She told me that she pulled and pulled and it wouldn't come off, and her dad couldn't hear her over the snow-blower. So she scraped her tongue off the railing with her teeth.
Yup. You heard right.
She scraped it with her teeth.
And it's still there to prove it. Seriously! A layer of tongue and gobs of frozen blood. (That I couldn't resist bringing in to show her! lol)
Take a look:
However, she ripped the little flappy thingamajig trying to pull her tongue off.
(And clearly we gave her some spiked eggnog for the pain.... Well, okay. It was whiskey. Straight up.)
Put this on your list of things NEVER to do.
Thanks for playing! Click on Kat's picture above to go and see my classmates!

Arrrgh! A thousand tiny (icy!) feet just ran up and down my back!
O.M.G...
I would NEVER know not to do that... I don't live with snow... ever. Holy cow...
I hope her tongue gets better soon!
Holy ouch, batman! I'm with Saundra, I've never seen anything like that. I've never even seen snow!
Wow, that looks like it hurts...
But I will admit that I did laugh my way through the story.... (not in a bad way)
OUCHHHHHHHHHHHHH oh that had to hurt. Didn't you learn from FLick in the movie? I guess it could have been worse, you could have shot your eye out.
Poor poor baby :)
OUCH!...At least she had a sympathetic soul in you...
RHONDA!!!! A warning Dear Jesus...
I am so sorry that baby had to go through this...Has she not seen A Christmas Story and why didn't you ever tell her what Mommy did?
Thses pictures will haunt me!
BTW...thanks for the Christmas card...you made my day! Your children are beautiful and I love the picture!
OUCH! Poor kid. Hope tongues heal quickly
Visiting from MamaKat's writers workshop posts...
Yikes! You definitely get a prize for most disturbing photos in a post that I've seen! I guess the need to put your tongue on cold metallic stuff is genetic!!! I feel so bad that she was stuck there and daddy couldn't hear her because of the snow blower! that must have been quite a scary moment!
It's the Christmas Story all over again. Thank goodness there was no real serious damage. I'm stopping by cause you were the commenter before me over at Dandelion Wishes!
Oh my goodness. That looks so painful. Here I was complaining to my hubby cause I have one of those little white bumps on my tounge that gets sore.
Yikes!!! I do like the generational aspect of the story but, that poor thing!! I hope it heals soon.
That hurts me to even LOOK! I mailed your book yesterday!!!!
Came by from Mama's Losin' It and laughed my butt off.
Oh My.. tongue hurts! Gah..
Hey this is Kendall from Mama Kat's.
As I was reading this, when I read the words tasty and snow in close proximity, I was like 'this can't be going where I think it is.'
It's even funnier that your daughter does the same thing years later. Hope she heals soon. : )
More people need to watch A Christmas Story and learn from it.
I have never done this, but I remember kids doing it at school. Your description was bad enough to make me wince, the pictures almost put me over the edge!
Oh that makes my mouth hurt!
GAAH! Oh my poor baby girl. I felt my knees weaken at Livvie's pictures. Good thing I was sitting or I'd have fallen down in a heap. I hope she's feeling better. More whiskey will do it. :-) It'll heal up before she gets married.
Never show me that again. I feel sick but I still like you.
Visions of Ralphie's friend are dancing through my head right now.
OMGoodness... poor little thing! I hope she heals fast!
As a parent, I'm sure you'll remember it more than she will. Kids are amazingly resilient.
One of my favorite winter photos is of me with my two year old son bundled to within an inch of his life in my one arm, the snow shovel in my other hand, watching a blizzard howl on the plains. Hangs in my office now close to 20 years later and still has the power to transport me back to that moment in time.
Ow Ow Ow OWWWWW!
Ouch.
OMGosh that is so funny and not funny at the same time! I can't help but think of the Christmas story too.
Have a great day!
OMG!!! That poor baby!! Awww...that looks so painful!!
omg, I hope/think it should heal quickly. Don't most cuts in the mouth heal really fast?
Blood. Even reading ahout it is to much for me. Great post anyway.
