Red Teddy

My brother got Cassie, my then youngest, and his Godchild, a teddy bear for Christmas one year.  I believe she was three.

She loves this thing.

Still.

She is 12.

Red Teddy is her comfort zone.

He is her best friend.

We would be in trouble if we were to wash it, because then it would lose its smell.

We would have to go back and get Red Teddy when he was forgotten somewhere.

Except once on holidays, when he was tangled in the blankets in the hotel bed, and we left him behind.  No one realized it until we got home.  But would you believe that wonderful hotel found Red Teddy and sent him, postage paid, to our house, express post so she would have him for the following night?

I don't know if I ever thanked them for that.

And SHE is going to kill me if any of her friends read my blog!!!

Leon and the girls are gone camping now, and I am sad to report that he has been left behind to hold down the fort.

I didn't even notice when this happened.

When she no longer relied on Red Teddy.

But at least he still has the position of Head Teddy.

He is perched at the head of her bed while the others are subjected to the stinky foot portion.

And, I guess, as she grows, this is just going to have to be good enough.

For me, and for Red Teddy.

Oh, I know just how you feel. Our girls have always had "Ernie" (you know, THE Ernie) and "Bear." I'll never forget the night my husband tucked the girls in, came out of their bedroom with Bear in his hand and said, "Allie said she didn't want Bear tonight because she doesn't need him anymore."

I think she was four or five. And I cried like a little girl.

So sweet of her to leave Red Teddy in your care......how sad though that she doesn't NEED him like she used to and this shows she's growing up....

Awe, that is so sweet! I know what you she must be going through...you can´t stop it (the growing up). Unfortunately! :(

Well for the love of Almighty God, with all the tragedies going on in the world today, why am I sitting at my computer right now with tears streaming down my face at the knowledge that our little girl doesn't need Red Teddy anymore. Another rite of passage, another milestone achieved, and I am saddened today.

This was so touching..and it made me well up. Our son is only 2 and "B" and "Bananas" are his "buddies" that go everywhere with us. And one day they won't...ugh..I need tissue.

What a cute post. I got a teddy bear for my 3rd birthday, and it became my best pal. It was my "Head Teddy" as you put it!

I'm 28 now, and I actually still have that old, ugly, worn, and well loved bear. (Mine has been washed numerous times, though). My son now has my teddy. It has gotten him through many-a-night when he couldn't snuggle me.
