I do have a point to make.
I don't know if you know facebook very well, but when you search for someone you get a whole list of possibilities. I knew the first one was her right away. BUT, what I didn't notice were a couple of group pages listed underneath. I only saw it after I left her a message.
Suddenly I am seeing "Support Group for Shauna ----", "Fundraiser for Shauna ----".
That worried me.
I opened up those groups and found out that this old friend's sister was in a mountain biking accident and is now paralyzed from the chest down, with little use of her fingers to boot.
She has twin girls who will be two this month.
She will be in the hospital for 6-12 months.
Paralyzed.
I've been thinking about her all day.
It makes me want to dance with my kids.
Walk around the lake to feed the ducks.
Go and have one smokin' game of soccer.
Ride my bike.
Pinch Olivia's little bum.
Dance. With Leon. The way we used to.
What would you be sure to do?
Side note: Liv and I did indeed go and feed the ducks tonight!

Oh...how sad! I think to be honest...I would make sure our family has made up over this stupid tiff we are all in!
I'd be sure to walk my dogs...
mow the lawn...
jump rope with my nieces...
play badmitten in the back yard...
Thanks for this inspiring post.
Just last week my nephew had a mountain biking accident also. He broke his jaw, lost 5 teeth and has to be fed with a straw now. For how long I don´t know. But he will be ok. Thank God. I too feel privileged that my kids and we are all well. I feel the need to hug my girls, but can´t, because they don´t live close by, so I go visit someone who´s in need of some ´lovin...
It's a gut-wrenching story, and illustrates how life can change in an instant. I suspect that Shauna's spirit will help her look at her cup as half-full, despite this tragic turn of events. Now, I hope you'll excuse me. I have to go dance with your father! While I can.
Oh my gosh. That's tragic.....let's see......a million little things. It's amazing how when contemplating doing things without the use of your limbs there isn't much that it doesn't encompass.
Makes you appreciate what you've got!
Poor girl! I can't even begin to tell you all of the things I need to do.
Whenever I hear something like this, I wanna pinch my gals' bums, too! And Hubby, for good measure! I tell ya, though, I'm sooooooo exhausted from gardening today that I don't know if I can do much pinchin'!
The day you told me this story I was having a "PITTY ME" day, how my life consists of constant cleaning and chasing after 3 boys. Hearing this really put things into perspective for me and I appreciate the fact that I can mop my kitchen floor and never get to sit down until
10:30 pm!! This story has haunted me for 2 days now, but in a good way as I hope to never forget how lucky I actually am. I'm sure Shauna will fight this battle and WIN!!
Your facebook friend!
Thanks so much for saying hello on my guest post over at Angie's. I hope you'll drop by and visit my blog sometime.
This is a great post and certainly a motivator to take advantage of each and every day we are given. I've always loved the saying "Dance like nobody's watching!"
That is so sad. I would stop bitching about how bad I have it- in fact I think i will go ahead and do that now.
